The word tattoo is said to has two major derivations- from the Polynesian word ‘ta’ which means striking something and the Tahitian word ‘tatau’ which means ‘to mark something’. The history of tattoo began over 5000 years ago and is as diverse as the people who wear them.
We all express ourselves in very different ways. Some people strive for thrill, others rely on art. Some people want to be noticed, others don’t. It is a very diverse world, and that what makes it interesting. Talking about diverse and interesting, body art is a whole diverse and interesting world of itself.
I was always intrigued by the meaning behind people’s tattoos and impressed by the people that wear them well and don’t care about what others think.
I had my first tattoo when I was a teenager. The experience I had back then is totally different from the experience I had when I got my last tattoo couple of months ago. My only advice is when you decide to get a tattoo be sure about the meaning behind the tattoo you are getting, you don’t want to end up with a symbol that you will later find out means something totally different from what you expected! And remember it is something that will stay with you for the rest of your life. I got a wedding ring tattoo from my first marriage, at the time I thought it will last forever. Unfortunately the decisions you make at 20 are most likely decisions that you will not be happy with when you are 30. When I was planning to get married again, I tried to remove my wedding band tattoo. It was painful, expensive and guess what! It is still on my finger.
I remember a tattoo artist telling me that when it comes to tattoo your body is the canvas and the tattoo is the art that you carry wherever you go!
