“I advocate glamour. Every day. Every minute.” Dita Von Teese

In Fashion on December 5, 2010 at 9:11 pm

There are some people that scream coolness; they have that “je ne sais pas“ whether they work for it or it comes naturally. Dita Von Teese is the epitome of that indescribable something, and she works really hard at it.

Dita has gone from an unknown burlesque queen to an internationally known style icon and fashion goddess sitting front row at the Paris collections.

Not only did she reinvent the very vintage art of burlesque, but she lives by the bygone philosophy of carrying yourself as a lady.

I’m into bondage. I think it’s really fun, and I love playing the part of the damsel in distress. … The feeling is amazing when someone (spanks me) right.

And you wonder why she is my fashion icon?

Geek Chic…

What’s the difference between a geek and a nerd? Geeks have a social aptitude, nerds don’t. Geeks fall in love and marry non-geeks, nerds when they find love it’s always with another nerd. However geeks and nerds are closely related, in fact many nerds will start out as geeks.

What does this have to do with fashion? Geek style has a big influence on the fashion we are seeing on the street, the stores and the runaways. Below are some fashion items I found on inspired by geeks.

I am a geek and proud of it!

At the premiere of Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 1, Emma Watson looked stunning in her minidress by Spanish-born designer Rafael Lopez. Made from sheer black lace and contrasted with a feathered skirt, the dress is so sexy with some vintage flair!

I love dresses and I have a weakness for the vintage and retro look.  I discovered “pinupdresses” on and I fell in love with her craft. From mini dresses, to full circle rockabilly skirts to 80’s glamour to 50’s grace, her dresses are unique!

Here are some of my favourite dresses:

What can I say, I am a girly girl that loves bows, dresses, polka dots and tulle!

Corsets always intrigued me, not just because they are a fashion object but because they represent fetishism, glamour, sexiness and romanticism. They have magical powers that embrace the waist and enhance the female figure. From a mere undergarment to a symbol of femininity, the corset is an essential item in fashion.

Dita Von Teese, the synonymous of classic vintage glamour is one of the most famous corset models. She was once compared to Bettie Page because of her spirit and her image. The burlesque star was in countless magazine covers and was the star of the “Cointreau” commercial.

Enjoy her retro style and some of her vintage eroticism.

I always loved accessories. They embellish any outfit and transform a simple dress to formal evening wear.

Couple of weeks ago I was at The Queen West Art Crawl, an annual festival that celebrates art. I’ve met tons of great artists that inspired me. However this post is dedicated to a special one that I met and loved her craft! Meaghan Armstrong.

Meaghan makes hats with a vintage touch. From summer hats, to fall winter hats, to cocktail hats and bridal hats, every hat tells a story.

This one is my favourite, the purple colour, the satin fabric and the little details make it a unique piece. Just imagine it with a black dress and purple shoes!

Meaghan makes unique hats for all occasions.

And remember, we all have passions and the important thing is to follow them. Meaghan has been fulfilling her passion since she was 17!
